Self Led History Guides

The Stepping into Nature project which improves Dorset residents health and wellbeing through increasing a connection to nature (wildlife, landscape, history and culture), has created six self led history guides. These are ree of charge as funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and feature places in across Dorset. Find these here  –  ‘Walk Dorset’s History’ self led guides.

These walks are designed for those without a rich knowledge in history but would like to know a little more about the area. Old photos are used, often from postcards, to see what has and hasn’t changed over the past century. We suggest 90 minutes to walk, sit and enjoy reading the information. All walks avoid steep hills and difficult to walk areas. There are 6 walks in total covering Blandford Forum, Cerne Abbas, Eastern Dorchester and Fordington, Swanage, Sherborne and Weymouth.

The walks can be downloaded from online or a printed copy can be sent in the post on request from stepin2nature@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk.
