The Veterans’ Green Task Force Project has been set up in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It brings in veterans to help with the establishment of 50 million trees named the Northern Forest over the next 25 years.
It was set up by PATT Foundation’s founder, Andrew Steel who is also an ex-serviceman.
After the inception of this idea, The GTF has seen great success, with Hull City Council creating an ‘Armed Forces and Veterans Charter’ with The GTF covering two of the main pathways for veterans on mental health, training and employment.
The GTF isn’t a charity but rather the commercial side of the PATT Foundation and so the veterans are employed to do the work. The long term aim is to employ some of them full time throughout the year.
Nature based Therapy courses have also been started and 5-day residential courses are being piloted.
