The R;pple tool was developed by Alice Hendy after her brother Josh took his own life late last year. “R;pple exists to provide people with a voice, a choice, empowerment and control at a time when they are most vulnerable.”
The tool can be easily downloaded as an ‘extension’ to any PC and will flag harmful searches made on that computer with signposting to help. If you search “ways to self harm” it will flash up a message from R;pple. If you search “ways to kill myself” it currently flashes up a message with a number for The Samaritans.
“Please spread the word, approach your local school, college, university or business and encourage them to download R;pple to add a layer of protection for those struggling with their mental health.
Thank you for being a part of my brother’s legacy. This is for Josh and together, we can fight tech with tech and make the online environment a safer and more hopeful place.”
